A1:
The following email with the accompanying news release was sent to the media. What is wrong and/or right about the email and the news release? Explain your answers.
Email:
1. The subject title was not one that would stand out. When one receives so many emails and pitches a day, the emails tend to blend together. In order to get your individual email to stand out, it’s important to have a short, but creative subject that have to do with your story.
2. Attaching a picture to the release isn’t a horrible idea; however, the best idea for an image would probably be the company logo or a relevant, but professional looking image.
3. There really wasn’t any information in the email. While the information should be kept a bit shorter in the email, it should still have a sentence or two of what the news release is about.
4. It’s great they offered to answer any questions and showed their appreciation by thanking them. The only thing that could be different is adding a number or some kind of piece of contact information that allows for quick and easy contact.
News Release:
1. First of all, since this was an attachment in an email, the “for immediate release” part was not necessary.
2. Next, I didn’t see a dateline.
3. For the contact information, it’s a good thing they have some components to it, but I think they could have formatted it differently to make it more professional looking.
4. While reading the news release, I found multiple grammatical errors. It’s important to go over it and possibly even have another person proofread it. The less grammatical errors there are, the more professional you look; it also makes it easier for whomever is reading it to take you more seriously.
5. The body of the release is too long, and not all of it is really necessary. It’s best to get right to the point. Though it is interesting information, I feel like it wouldn’t hold the interest of the reader and would need to be condensed. If they feel it is necessary to include that information, they could possibly add a quick link that is easy to find at the bottom.
6. Since news releases follow the format of the inverted pyramid, the person who wrote the example one should have placed the information they have at the end, at the beginning. The most important information should always come first.

Wonderful job! You did an incredible job on each assignment! For assignment 5 what would your target audience be?
ReplyDeleteI really like your news release! It looks very professional!
Wonderful job on these assignments!
Elisabeth-
DeleteThank you so, so much. This truly means a lot coming from you. I spent a lot of time on it, so I'm glad it paid off.
For my target audiences, I would go with parents on Facebook because it would be a family activity they would be able to attend. As for Twitter, I kind of struggle with this one because not a lot of parents are on it. Do you have any ideas that could help me?
Thanks again!
Alexis,
DeleteI would suggest if you look into the demographics of who uses the site it will be easier to narrow it down! If I'm not mistaken there are a lot of young teens on Twitter; you could tailor your message to them possibly! I hope I was of some help!

Hi Alexis,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on each of your assignments explaining everything! For your Twitter post, I think it could be a little longer providing more information to the reader, but I really like the picture you used. It caught my attention right away! Well done.

DeleteThank you so much for your comment!
The Twitter post was difficult because of the 140 characters thing. However, looking back at it, I could have added a little more including some hashtags.
Thank you much!
I thought you were to the point and right on with postings. I thought the pictures were funny and the twitter post was right to the point.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kenneth!
DeleteI really appreciate your input!
Hi Alexis!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on these assignments! I like how you had each thing you noticed listed in an organized way for assignment one. Your news release was really awesome too! It is formatted very nicely; the more professional-looking, the better. Great work!

I also really loved your social media posts. They do an awesome job of generating excitement. You also included a striking image which is good, as well as links for more information. Both were very well done!

Thank you, Amber!
DeleteAlso, I really appreciate your suggestion for choosing an audience. Thanks for that. I was thinking teens because it's something to do with friends, but it's also a babysitting age, so it'd be something for them to do with the kids.
Thanks again!!
Your News Release was one of the best I have seen. It looked so professional and was written extremely well. The layout was awesome. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Elissa!!
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it because it took me a while to put together, so your comment means a lot!
Thanks again!
Great Job! The only thing that I would add is Hashtag into your Facebook and Twitter posts! Otherwise it is all well written and has all the information needed!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linds!
DeleteI remembered hashtags when it was too late (and, yes, it bugs me). Thank you for your input! It means a lot!
Hi Alexis,
ReplyDeleteWow. I love all your posts, they look so professional! The social media posts were very attention-grabbing. I had similar thoughts for the first assignment, too. Good job!
Thanks, Jenna!
DeleteI really appreciate your comment! I wish I would have added some hashtags, especially for the Twitter post.
Thanks again!
I really like that you included a news release as well as a news feature in your media kit, that added more information and provided further detail into the corporation. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Taylor!
DeleteI'm happy to get a comment like this! I put a lot of work into this one, so I really appreciate it!
Thanks again!
